Strength In Numbers As MMC Alliance Is Launched - Back to News
The growth in market share of
the off-site construction sector is set to gain much greater impetus, following the launch of the MMC Alliance.
The Alliance has been formed to promote the benefits of Modern Methods of Construction using off-site
manufacturing, and to provide high quality 'one-stop' architectural façade solutions to investors,
owners, developers, designers and construction teams.
Comprising over 40 acknowledged leaders in the modern methods of construction arena, the MMC Alliance was
started by Kingspan Off-Site and is now run by a board of elected members (see notes for further details). As
the Alliance represents every sub-sector of off-site manufacturing, its members can offer extensive expertise
as well as a first point of contact for total architectural façade solutions suitable for application onto
steel or concrete structures up to any height.
In addition to emphasising the obvious time savings inherent in off-site construction, the MMC Alliance
will promote the advantages of system certification by a recognised third party such as the BRE. This accreditation
guarantees structural integrity, airtightness and weather resistance along with thermal, acoustic, fire and
impact resistance performance. In addition, Alliance clients gain immediate access to technicians who are
recognised as providing some of the most comprehensive and knowledgeable commercial, design and applications
support in the industry.
MMC Alliance chairman David Smith commented: "Despite predictions by detractors, off-site specifications
are already running into millions of pounds every month. As the majority of this business is a direct result
of Alliance members' sales and marketing activity, it's easy to see the huge potential to the construction
industry of pooling off-site resources in this way."
Kingspan's managing director Pat O'Sullivan, who spearheaded the formation of the MMC Alliance, added:
"The use of modern methods of construction is certainly increasing, but traditional on-site building methods
still dominate the market. The MMC Alliance has been formed to help shake up the construction industry; to
ensure that every investor, designer, specifier and constructor is fully aware of the benefits of off-site
solutions - how they can be used to mitigate risk and cut both time and costs, with absolutely no compromise
on quality.
"Alliance members are like-minded businesses totally committed to the off-site cause. We are determined to
fast-track awareness, to ensure that off-site is properly represented in all relevant sectors and is given the
support it needs to quickly increase market share and, ultimately, take its rightful place as the genuine, viable
alternative to traditional building methods."
